The Nest by Louise Bourgeois


















The nest was created in 1994. It is a steel sculpture with multiple parts. It's measurements are 101 in. x 189 in. x 158 in. making it quite large. The sculpture depicts spiders of various sizes. It is interesting how she supports the larger steel bodies with thin steel legs. It seems that she often depicts a daddy long legs spider for some reason. Spiders were a common inspiration for much of Bourgeois' work. She didn't view spiders as evil creatures as many do. She viewed spiders as strong and protective. She has related them to her mother
