Cell XIV: Louise Bourgeois

Louise Bourgeois depicted an emotional, psychological, and physical aspect within human nature in her 2000 piece; known as Cell XIV. Using found salvaged materials to create the cell and placing a fabricated sculpture within, she was trying to touch on different forms of pain. At first sight, I was instantly reminded of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory on the Id, Ego, and Superego. With the Ego in the middle constantly suffering from the push and pull of the Id and Superego, the cage acts in a way as not being able to escape the mind.
