Louise Bourgeois

I chose Nature Study (Velvet Eyes), because of its Modern, cartoon looking aesthetic. Louise Bourgeois sculpted many of her pieces around a psychodynamic theme. This one seemed a little different then her other sculptures. After researching more about this piece, this one is supposed to be part of the surrealism movement, which didn't seem to apparent at first. This piece was inspired by Frieds theories and a quote by him, “Now the little girl, the woman, supposedly has nothing you can see. She exposes, exhibits the possibility of a nothing to see.” So this piece is suppose to represent an illusion to the female anatomy, the polarity of emotions, and the eyes staring right back at you. This piece is made out of marble, which the sides being rough. This weighs a total of 15 tons.
