Louise Bourgeois spider '03
This spider sculpture was made in 2003, and is a part of Louise Bourgeois' "L’araignée et les tapisseries" collection. This collection is about Louise's mother. This sculpture shows her mother as the body of the spider. Her mother use to make and repair tapestries for her father's textile workshop. That is why her mother's body is composed of tapestry material. She put her mother as the spider because spiders are meant to protect and weave. That is exactly what her mother did for her. She protected her, as well as weaved. Just like how spiders weave spider webs. Her mother weaved tapestries. This sculpture shows that this spider is so beautiful and delicate. But can still keep pests, or negative energy/people away.
