This sculpture by Takashi
Murakami, is “Pom and Me” made in 2009. Takashi is a Japanese contemporary
artist who coined the term superflat. When researching Takashi I enjoyed the wide
range of color, motifs and Japanese culture. He uses recurring objects like
smiling flowers, mushrooms and skulls. I chose the “Pom and Me” sculpture
because I thought it was different from some of his other works. I enjoyed how the sculpture is bright and almost animated. Takashi's work is very unique and different. I like how this is a self portrait of Takashi and his pet pomeranian.
