Louise Bourgeois - The Couple, 2007-2009
Looking through most of Bourgeois's works, it is obvious that she was able to portray a deep, personal meaning to something that may seem insignificant at first glance. This piece, titled The Couple, at first looks like many people intertwined abstractly together. However, Bourgeois used this piece to portray two people intertwined for eternity to demonstrate her fear of abandonment. Her artworks that involve couples have common theme regarding the fear of letting go or the fear of losing someone, which she admits brought her anxiety. I think that it's amazing how she was able to use those feelings of fear and anxiety to create such beautiful pieces of art.
